Interesting Read: Bloggers Research Companies You Plan to Work With

I just read an interesting article at Mommy Living the Life of Riley about a flaky sponsor. I want to encourage everyone to go over and read this article for themselves. It's so important to know who you are working with. Melissa keeps it real as she describes exactly what happened didn't happen. We can all learn something from her situation.

  • Do a quick Google search of your sponsor (and the PR reps name if you have it)
  • Check their BBB rating (this company had a F)
  • Look at what people are saying on their Facebook page (are their customers happy?)
  • Check Yelp.com (this company has several negative reviews)

Using these simple 4 steps you should be able to avoid a lot of drama.

The Book Club Imposter

I miss talking to adults! That's why I was so excited a couple months ago when one of my friends invited me to join her book club. She said, "We only talk about the book a little then it's all wine and good times." This was starting to sound even better! I had not had a girls night out in over a year.

The first three books we read were The Hunger Games trilogy (haven't read it yet? I definitely recommend it! Quick read the first one before the movie comes out this Friday) I borrowed these books from my friend. You see, I kinda forgot to mention something important... I am kinda cheap.. errr, frugal. I just can't justify buying a book I'm going to read once. I love reading. I read tons of books ... that I borrow for FREE from our local library.

So anyway, this past month, the book was The Night Circus. I was not that excited about reading it. It has mixed reviews. I am not going to say anything bad about it because well... I did not actually read it but if you're interested here's the link to goodreads. I couldn't ask my friend to borrow another book ... she might catch on to my cheapness (yay, I think I still got this under control... being cheap without people noticing). I checked the library, 100 people in queue waiting for this book before me. I went to Target; turns out it's only available in hardback... $20 for 1 book... I couldn't do it! So I did what any 'normal' person would do ... FAKED IT.

First, I read a bunch of the reviews on Goodreads, Amazon and a couple of blogs. I looked up the main characters, a couple of main scenes and crossed my fingers. You see we only talk about the book for about 10 minutes so I felt pretty confident.

So last Friday night I went to Book Club, I knew the test was on when someone suggested that we all say which circus tent we would like to visit and why. I did amazing, even bringing up the boat made of books floating on ink that no one else remembered to mention. I think I was pretty convincing. When it came time to suggest a book for next month, someone said maybe we should alternate classic with contemporary and I jumped right aboard for that! I shouldn't have any problems this month with Jane Eyre, our library has 10 copies, phew!

What's the weirdest thing you have done lately to 'fit in'?

Note to self: Perfect reminder of why I should NOT tell real life friends about this blog.

Sundays at 10/9C there is a show you must see!
Have you heard of it? It's called My Strange Addiction and airs on the TLC network.
It's incredible that some people can live so strangely.

One girl is addicted to eating nail polish. I can't get that image out of my head and it's been WEEKS since I first saw it.

Another is addicted to eating toilet paper and yet another is um... in love.... with his car. Well you'll see...

Check out their website here (their site has sound), it has tons of information and trailers!

Why Blog?

I can't even tell you how often I open Blogger and then stare at the empty blog post editor. All day long things happen and I think 'I should blog about that' and then I come here and have like writers block or something. I really want to be a blogger but so many things are stopping me. The biggest thing is probably self esteem about my writing, I'll be the first to admit, It ain't that great. That's one of the main reasons I wanted to do this though... so I can become a better writer. Another thing that stops me is that I feel like every topic has been covered by other bloggers, I feel like I can't bring anything new to the table. But I know that's not true, I am reading too many blogs, lol, that's why I feel like it's all already been said. I have tons of original things to say! Does anyone else feel this way?

I will try harder!
