Getting Ready for Baby: Pimp My Stroller (Amazon Edition)

I won a Britax B Ready this year and I love, love, love it! My 2 1/2 year old loves it as well. I'm not so sure he is going to want to give it up when the baby comes so I'm super glad that it converts into a double stroller!

Here's what I want to get to make it even better!

KinderCare San Diego Offers Winter Camps

Something you all probably don’t know about me is that before my second son was born, I was a working mom. Balancing work and home life was quite difficult but at least I always knew my son was well taken care and happy while I was working because he was at a KinderCare child care center here in San Diego. They are serious about child safety. Among other things, they have code entry doors so only authorized people can enter their facilities. The personnel are all background checked and trained in CPR and First Aid. Plus they have procedures in place for just about every situation you could imagine. (They also happen to be the cleanest childcare center that I toured)

My son attended KinderCare for 3 years. He loved every day of it because they made it so fun. I loved that they always incorporate learning into their activities. One of my son’s favorite things were the theme days, below is a picture of my son on Costume Day! (It’s hard to find a costume in June though so you see him rockin some SuperMan pjs). Besides social skills, he learned so much there including printing, crafting skills such as cutting and basic math skills. I honestly think that one of the reasons he does so well in school is this head start he got there.

With winter break right around the corner, I had been thinking about sending him to a day camp simply to keep him entertained throughout his break. Whenever he is home during this time, he gets way off schedule, kinda bored and totally cranky. Can anyone relate? Well I just heard about KinderCare’s winter camp and it sounds like a perfect fit!

They are offering camps for December 19th - December 23rd and December 27th – December 30th, for both preschool and school-age children. The themes for educational and hands-on learning during these weeks will be “Chemical Reactions and Properties of Matter” and “Wright Flight Week” respectively. They will include topics like “Balloon Rockets”, “Bubble Trouble”, “Helicopter Propellers” and “Volcano Blast”, Prices and availability vary by center. Find your closest center here.
For more information, please visit The KinderCare website, now featuring livechat to answer any questions you may have.

Interesting Read: Bloggers are Not Journalist

I just heard about the Crystal Cox case in which a blogger was sued for defamation of character. She argued that she was protected under Shield Laws as all journalist are. But in an interesting turn of events, the judge ruled against her saying that she is no journalist since she has no news association affiliation. She was ordered to pay 2.5 MILLION! Read the whole story HERE.

Here's what we can take away from this:

1. Always blog with integrity. When I have some time today, I am going to do the Blog with Integrity Pledge, I encourage you all to do if too if you haven't done so already.
2. Use reputable sources and known informants especially when making a claim (and most definitely if it's a claim on some one's character)
3. Follow all rules and laws that could pertain to your content. Such as: FCC Regulations.
4. Have a few million on hand just in case.. ha ha (This one is obviously just a joke)

Best Win of 2011: Gourmet Weekend in New Orleans Courtesy of Community Coffee

I bet you thought my best win this year was going to be from a blog giveaway since that's what I'm usually doing but guess what.. it's not. It was a sweepstakes hosted by Community Coffee. I have to admit though, I was on their website getting information for a mandatory entry on a blog giveaway when I noticed this giveaway, LOL. I thought New Orleans.. that'd be awesome! A weekend getaway... that's about as long as I can stand to be away from my kids. I entered and then of course forgot all about it. A few months later, I came home to a Fedex envelope on my door. I wondered which blog giveaway I had won that fit in that thin envelope, a book perhaps, or maybe some eye shadow? When I opened it and started reading my prize notification and affadavit request from Community Coffee for 1 of 5 Gourmet Weekends in New Orleans including airfare, ground transport to and from airport, hotel and $500 spending cash, I had to sit down. The prize which is worth about $2500 was overwhelming! This is the best win I've had to date and I've been entering giveaways for a long time.
One of the great things about the prize was that I got to choose the date. I chose my birthday weekend which also happened to be Halloween weekend which is off the hook in New Orleans. We had a ton of fun and ate two tons of delicious food. Here are some pictures I wanted to share. I have to tell you there coffee is DELICIOUS (and I'm not just saying that) I got their White Chocolate Mochasippi. It was so much better than that other coffee place .. you know the one with the green logo. This coffee was delicious, smooth and had no after taste or ice chunks.

Getting Ready for Baby: Thrift Store Shopping

I know I haven't posted much here about our adoption journey but I plan on doing that really soon. For those of you who don't know already, we've been paperwork ready and awaiting a match for an infant girl for a little over a year now. Now what this means basically is that we could get a call tomorrow or possibly in 6+ months that either we've been matched with a birthmom or that our baby was already born. In the case of a baby that's newly born, we have just 24 hours to travel to her. I know what you're thinking?...
What? You could have a newborn tomorrow?!
In another state?
I know it's kinda mind boggling and definitely stressful. Stressful enough that up to this point, not thinking about it had been my way of copping. I started to get a little panicky the other day though. I mean.. our social worker said that it should definitely happen within the next 12 months. So getting ready for baby is probably a good idea. So what do you need for a baby girl in an unknown climate of unknown size? She could be a preemie or she could be an 10+ pounder! I just don't know so that's why I'm going to need a little of everything to start off. Did I mention that we'll be living a hotel for several days (if not weeks) while we get legal permission (ICPC) to leave the state with our new daughter?
Ok, so I need to shop smart because we need quite a bit of stuff. Adoption and travel will be huge expenses we'll be incurring at the same time. There will also not be a baby shower until after this baby is home.
So I could go to Kohls, I mean after all.. I do have that 20% off coupon right?

        2 infant gowns $9.80                     5 newborn onesies 13.60
I'd still end up paying $100s

What about Target?
 2 infant pants $8                              5 newborn onesies $10
$20 won't get me too far here either.

Or... I could visit a few local thrifts and see what I could come up with for my $22

Wow! 6 pants/leggings, 2 infant gowns, 1 dress, 10 onesies, 2 hats, 3 pairs of socks and 16 infant Pampers diapers. I'd say it was definitely a good day! Now, I just have to find some sleepers.
